An Australian company has released a beta of a project called 360desktop. It allows you to scroll the computer desktop left or right. This allows for a panoramic or 360 degree image to be on your desktop.
This might catch on. So I downloaded it and this is what I found. A size of 1000 pixels high and about 4996 pixels wide seems to work best. (The image can be wider.) Figure a ratio of 5 to one.
There is no utility (yet) to put in an image as the background. There will be a utility to take your image (or montage) and convert it to a file readable by the product. All I can figure out so far, is the image gets stored in My 360desktop, ends with the file extension of .360 and it is not a renamed bmp, jpg, or png file.
The site is 360desktop.com where a free download is available. I have found an error in it, running on my XP. (No MAC version yet.)
I hope it works well. Be nice to have another place to put my 360 views.
