360 Video

If your interested in spherical movies, I created a short demo from the output of our 360 movie viewer.
www.virtual360video.com/v360v.avi (2.5 MB / DivX codec used)
If you would like to see the uncorrected 360 movie (30 MB), you can download it here.
www.virtual360video.com/vs/CanadaPlace.avi
The movie was created with the www.ptgrey.com 'LadyBug' spherical camera. ($10K)
I also have a couple old example 360 movies (with sound) that used a movie camera and a BeHere 360x120 mirror lens adaptor.
I would like to get some feedback from the PanoGuide group about what you think the future of 360 movies might be.

Very Cool!
thanks for showing the clips. I'd be interested to see the old clips with the be here rig too!
Did you have any parallax problems with this ladybug?

The BeHere example was done by Atom Films (First Plane Ride) and has full stereo sound. (really funny but uses adult language) 200MB. For those interested in 360 interactive movies, I can send a CD with the eval viewer and samples. (including the BeHere movie)
Thanks for the reply and kind words.

I prefer it when they convert it so you can control were you are looking yourself www.vrh2.com/ld2_spram_mpg4.mov is really cool. You don't see many of them around though. Behere used to have plugins for windows media player and realplayer and everthing but as they quit the market I guess there just wasn't that much demand.

Yup its a clever idea but still you doing the panning, I like to be able to grab a pedestrian and follow them around as I go past, to have the sense of control, but maybe thats just me.

If your running Windows, just send me a e-mail at john_AT_v360v_DOT_com and I'll send you the viewer to try. You can pan, zoom and 'freeze' the movie. The viewer acts like a normal pano viewer with a equirectangular .jpg or if the movie is 'frozen'.
I'm just posting the demos so folks get an idea what the user sees. I would appreciated any feedback your willing to offer.

I downloaded the Imatronics demo. This is the worse 360 video example I have ever seen. I'm surprised you even posted a link to this.
Can you post a better example? I'm a happpy camper if this is the only other 360 movie offering.

I posted the link just to point out the software exists for user controled panning and zooming of a panorama video movie. I agree the demo movie is crap. He was always complaining that they could never get anyone to supply decent footage. Maybe you should contact Frank at Imatronics and strike up a deal somehow.
Did you bother to download a trial and make a "user" panning movie? I think the only limitation is a watermark. (could be wrong though!)

I'm sorry if it sounded like I was coming down on you for posting the link. I really appreciate ALL feedback and this was the reason for creating the thread in the first place.
Virtual 360 Video is looking for clients that want to include the viewer API in their projects. The DLL is about 80K and has a wide array of image correction features and output options.
I see 360 movies being used in a golf course DVD's or a mall walk-through. Untill there is more generic 360 movie content available, I don't see the point of offering a shrink-wrap viewer at this time.

Spherical Panorama Inc. Releases 360 Panorama/Movie Viewer
SPI has released their combo panorama and movie viewer for spherical and cylindrical based .jpg and .avi files. The viewer provides many extended features not found in most general purpose panorama viewers. Download sp.zdt.ru/download.php your 15 day trial version and give the viewer a spin. The purchase price is only $25.00 USD per Windows PC. The download includes a sample movie and documentation.

Note: Vlad from SPI will be supporting the retail version of the viewer directly. Virtual 360 Video will be focused on working with clients that wish to integrate the viewer (API) into their own product.

I seem to be having issues with the DivX codec causing Windows system faults from time to time. I started using the MPEG4 codec and the problems went away and the playback is better with a smaller file size.
If you have downloaded the demo viewer, please post your feedback to the forum.

Frank did contact me and sent me a demo using one of the LadyBug spherical camera demos. Very cool !
Nice to see competition in the 360 movie space.
