Looking for a soft camera bag
Posted: 15 Jul 2007 at 22:34 GMT
This is a tall order...

I have a sea kayak, so my space is limited to the bulkhead storage (I wouldn't strap my camera case to the deck of the boat).

While the bulkheads are supposed to be dry, they still get a little water in them over time, so I find I always use a dry bag

I'm looking for a soft camera bag for my pano equipment, that's waterproof.

I don't need easy access, this is strictly to transport my camera gear, so when I get to a destination, I can pull up on a beach, take out my camera and tripod and set it up and shoot some nice remote (isolated) panoramics.

Any suggestions?

Hi Spyboy...

you can put your camera in one like this:

www.waterproofcases.net/670.html
www.aquapac.net/usstore/erol.html

then your camera and the rest of your setup:

www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.asp?pfid=2903&deptid=...

remember that is highly recommend using silica gel desiccant packets with all cases. Silica gel can remove humidity that is sealed in the bag. This is especially important for cameras and electronic equipment. Keep your gear completely dry!

greetings

And double the bag, put something between( a case, textile tissue so on) that helps for mechanic protection and also against things that can accidentally penetrate the first bag and can compromise the seal.

I have some large dry bags already, so I guess I should just get a few small ones to put the lenses and camera in (separate bags) then put though into a larger dry bag or so (and put towels or clothes in the big bag as padding with the little bag nested inside.

I like Pelican Cases, but they can be bulky and that's the hard part in a kayak, there's not alot of room and it's weird dimensions, so being able to squish a bag in helps (provided there's enough padding to protect whatever's in it)

As always, everyone on the forum is helpful, thanks again. smile

I didn't know Lowepro had a bag that fits into the Pelican case, that's pretty nice. I'll have to measure the storage area to see if I can fit a case into the kayak.

Again, this isn't to use while on the water, just to transport to get me out to some fun locations to shoot panos and other stuff.

I just picked up a little point & shoot that's already waterproof without the need for a clear plastic housing. It's waterproof to 33 feet, more than I need to worry about since I'll be shooting from my kayak but good to know incase I want to go snorkeling next time I'm in Florida.

It's the Olympus Stylus 770SW. Only 7.1 megapixel, but I was just looking for something I can keep on the deck of my boat to shoot birds, or whatever at a moments notice, and if a wave splashes over me, the camera won't be destroyed.
