GeoTag Panos & Pics. Which GPS? How To?

Yo Landlubbers ......
I use a Canon G9 with wide-angle lens and want to add a GPS to my hotshoe, so I can begin to GeoTag (and Geo-encode) my panos and pictures.
Which GPS would you recommend? Anyone using a particular brand with success? What is your workflow to add GeoTag info to your metadata? How and when do you upload to your website (or Flickr, etc.) so viewers can see both your pano/picture and the Google Map of the site location?
Everyone here is AWESOME and I thank you always for your comments and assistance. I truly have learned much by your experiences.
Mahalo and Aloha Blessings to all, Steve

canon G9 does not accept gps input, via hotshoe or otherwise, (meaning no embedding lat/long in-camera) so you will need to use a datalogger to gather gps info, and then synch to your images later -
reviews of various dataloggers here - scilib.typepad.com/techreviews/reviews-list.html
geotagging forum here - tinyurl.com/65cdze
this looks interesting too -www.gpsreview.net/atp-photo-finder/
i'm using a di-gps mini - www.di-gps.com/di-GPS/n2.htm - on nikon d300, so lat/long/alt is automatically embedded in exif info in-camera, works great -
there is currently no way to geotag (embed lat/long in pano file) flash or qtvr panos however, so i am using a wordpress plugin, "geopress", to embed this info in the webpage, auto generate maps, etc -
like here - www.samrohn.com/explore/new-york-city/
so far, wordpress + geopress is the easiest way to geotag pano's i've found, free, off-the shelf apps, minimal coding, etc - www.georss.org/geopress
any others ?

Hi, I actually use a really afordable method for my website (www.singaporevr.com)
I have a Nokia N82 and I downloaded the FREE Nokia tagger software: www.nokia.com/betalabs/locationtagger
Each time I shoot a VR, I simply snap another photo with my N82 and the GPS data is saved in that photo (the one shot by my phone).
Go home and reference the VR photos with the photo shot with the Nokia... done...
If you have these phones, Nokia N95, N95 8GB, N82, E90, N73, then lucky you ! ! ! Free GPS photo tagger ! ! !

What software are you using to read the EXIF/GPS data when you get home?

I use Robogeo (www.robogeo.com) to take my gps data and write it to the exif in my images.
This works great with my point & shoot cameras.
On my Canon 40D, I have the WFT-E3A wifi adapter, which has a usb port and can take a gps. I hook up my Garmin GPSMap 60CSx to the port, and in the menu on the camera, connect to the gps and then as I take pictures, it writes the coords directly to the EXIF. If I have the view on the lcd showing the image as a thumbnail, it even shows the coords on the camera after the pictures are taken.
Autopano Pro retains this exif data, so after I stitch a pano, it will write the coords back into the image. I'm not sure if PTGui does this (yet)

For viewing images, I use Picasaweb (uploaded from Picasa), Google just added a "view on map" button to see the images with geocoded data.
Flickr also will display your images on a map, but you have to turn on the "use exif data" option in your account (off by default, at least it was a few months ago when I started messing around with it).

actually, i cheated, none of my panos were from geotagged photos, the gps info was added later -
latest versions of MS Expression Media Pro (formerly iView Media Pro) will read gps data, and display lat/long + maps with MS virtual earth (even on macs)
however, this app will also destroy the gps data if you use it to resize the image, even if "preserve gps data" is checked - hopefully, this will be fixed at some point...
a nice freeware app for mac based geotaggers is PhotoGPSEditor, lets you view tagged photos on google map, synch untagged photos to a gpx track, tag photos by selecting a location from a map, batches, etc, available here - www.mmisoftware.co.uk/
