I recently interviewed Martin Parr at his home for an article I am writing. Whilst I was there I also took the opportunity of doing an environmental (360 VR) portrait of him.

In addition to taking pictures Martin is an avid collector of objects and ephemera, check out the cabinet on the right.

The soundtrack is not authentic!

Nodal Ninja Prices in the UK

Yesterday I used paypal to buy two stops for my Nodal Ninja (Using stops was actually my original idea www.panoguide.com/forums/tipsntricks/1984/?page=2 )

Nick Fan said:
Thanks Martin for the ideas. I will try to make some plastic blocks for preseting location on the rails.

Today my money was refunded and I was told to buy from RedDoorVR here in the UK. If I had wanted to use Red Door I would have used them. Their prices are much higher than ordering direct: Here is an example: Price for the NN3 RedDoorVR is £182.07
Direct from NN £113.435

Both of these prices are before postage - even if I get charged tax the price is not as high as buying in the UK. So why can't I do this?

I have bought two versions of this pano head now, because of the quality of the product and I wanted to support Nicks business. Please can someone explain why we can't buy direct.

Thanks.

I have tried the plugins and really like them. In the past I have used PTEditor but your plugins save me loads of time.

Hi

Love the music! Could I suggest you try to get a bit more detail into the shadows?

If you have a copy of PhotoShop CS try using the Image/adjustments/Shadow-highlight tool to lift the shadow detail. it looks very dark on my screen. I didn't see the women putting money in the case until I lightened the image up.....

Thanks for the details of the Flash MP3 player I will give that a go.

Hope this helps.

It is not specifically for a stills VR project, so I do not need indents. I am working on a continuous vr/time lapse project. So all I need is a VERY slow motor to mount my camera on.

I am working on project where I need to rotate a camera VERY slowly on a tripod. It needs to be smooth, have some speed control and be portable. Does anyone have any links or ideas how I can achieve this?

The other requirement is CHEAP! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks - Martin

Looks fine to me. But you might want to try:
The image was shot at f5 - I always use f8 with this lens as it gives optimum results.
As the lens suffers from chromatic aberration, I prefer to shoot RAW (or NEF in your case) where it can be corrected in either the Nikon NEF converter or CS2 Raw converter.
The key to the Sigma 8mm is sharpening, I use a mixture of Ultrasharpen Pro 7 and Convolution Sharpening (based on suggestions from John Houghton).
When you say you focus on infinity what do you mean - for this lens the hyperfocal distance is 1.6mts Try focusing on that.
With proper sharpening the image looks fine to me.

I know this is a bit over the top but for my Canon camera I sometimes use a Pocket Wizard. This is a radio trigger used mainly for flash but can also be used to fire the camera. Google Pocket Wizard

I just found an interesting panoramic art piece www.kozyndan.com/tyne_qtvr.html

It depicts stag and hen nights in Newcastle on Tyne (I think smile ).

Do you have any favourite 360 paintings?

My current web sites are hosted by Freedom2Surf. For the last few years the service has been great but recently they have been bought by Pipex.

Since then the service has gone from bad to worse... The site with my QTVRs has been down for the past 24 hours (a database error).

So does anyone have a hosting company that they would recommend? At the moment I get 200MBytes supports WAP, Perl CGI, PHP4, Frontpage with 10mb MySQL database. It costs me about £30 a year plus name registration.

Cheers
