OK boys and Girls.. no more arguments.. we have all made our choices of Software & Hardware.. let the manufacturers fight their corners away from public forums like this. There only so many variations on hardware before inevitably some will look the same..

Single shot lens do not produce professional quality images - FACT.
They dont even produce virtual tours... they produce panoramic tours.
If you want to get into the game of 'professional' virtual tours then the only option is to invest in 'professional' equipment, common sense really! smile
We have upgraded through various set ups over the last 5 years, trying 'cheaper' options initially. The time saved, and the quality difference with a decent set up is worth every penny.

pano-maxx head looks like a Nodal Ninja Clone. Is there any copyright issues here? Does this have any significant differences which could justify me buying apart from price?

Regards.

Single shot optics.... devil devil devil devil devil devil lol!

Welcome to the forum Shaun.
Panorama functions on cameras often just name the photos differently to standard photos or put them in an individual folder, but you don't need this function, as long as you remember to have enough overlap for your stitcher to join the pics. The panorama mode doesn't actually take a 'panoramic picture' it takes a series of frames to stitch later using the same settings, so you don't get differences in exposure and white balance etc.

Panorama studio is just one of the hundreds of generic 'pano stitchers' for single row panos. A very popular stitching program among the pros is PTgui.

Are you wanting to make virtual images or just panoramas?
ie 360 x 180 images or just generic panoramas.

Another little thing to remember is as its a manual lens.. once youve found your optimum settings, fix them. So many times I forgot to put the apeture lock on and ruined the shot. Now I have put a strip of black tape under the lens across the rings to keep them all in place.

The peleng is well known for have variations between lens 'batches' We use it mainly with a 40d and the one we have is impressively sharp. Make sure you have it set at F8 or F11 at least.

The way we got the best setting for the lens was to set it up in a static indoor scene and take a single frame and change the lens settings as you go but keep the camera settings exactly the same in manual mode. then you will find the optimum. Ours is set to completely the opposite we expected! laugh

If its just going to be a permenant display you can 'record' a tour and put it on dvd, we have done this with a few clients and it turned out very well. We use export as movie feature in TW pro. This is a good option for use with existing clients systems and doesnt require and extra set up.. there is no interactivity however.
